The brewers of Kössel Bräu describe this as a Bavarian beer meeting Irish stout. Beer nerds will point out that it's more Dunkel than Stout (know your Dunkels dudes). I'm a fan of dark beer as much as the next guy, especially during a soggy February evening, but I really bought this for the following:
1. The Catholic artwork lifted from somewhere - heavy on the detail and wholly unsuitable for a beer label but still who cares. Not one but three images lined up there, with all their glorious gloopy dots of misaligned registration.
2. In my ignorance I assumed the black Madonna was a New World phenomenon. I now stand corrected.
3. The lovely (albeit) incongruous shadowed type that flows under another, clearer graphic illustration of Maria Hilfer. Beautiful alpine country from the looks of it.
