Origin: Malle, Antwerp, Belgium
Style: Trappist Ale
ABV: 7%
The original dubbel ale - much imitated by bona fide fellow monks and big brewers alike. A great beer and now widely available. As with all genuine Trappist ales look for the stamp bearing it's authenticity. This one is a relative newcomer, having been established in the 19th century. Fairly heavy, pretty strong and lots of fruity, dense flavour.

The label has the typical conservative aesthetic you'd expect from an abbey ale - i.e. brown tones and a simple layout. No blurb or marketing spunk ruining this. Nicely restrained with some lovely modern blackletter.
