Immediatedly recognisable from their heavily illustrated labels, the Wychwood beers have carved out a loyal following. It's a tasty ruby ale with an sweet malt caramel flavour.

However it's the artwork that steals the show here. Although fantasy themes of goblins, magic and epic battles may be fairly mainstream now thanks to Peter Jackson, JK Rowling et al, back in the early 90s Wychwood was plowing a much lonelier furrow. Not that it's stopped them - this flagship ale is one of the UK's best-sellers. Best yet they've produced a whole series of themed and seasonal ales that all embrace a similar aesthetic. And there's nothing a beer nerd loves more than a nerdy collectable series. Good to see I'm not the only sadsack who enjoys this sort of stuff.
